OGG get together

We had a little Christmas Old Geezer's Group get together with wives last night. It's nice meeting and socializing with everyone. Guess we're gonna ride together on Sunday.

Time to get postin

Haven't updated for quite a while, the OGG guys that are the snowbird contingent are starting to trickle back in to the desert. Today we rode up Jack's Trail or Canyon, whichever you like, with two of the returnee's, Jerry and Larry, and a new OGG who lives right down the street. Larry is supposed to post some pics, maybe of the Elk we saw.

A new ride up north

We, (Emmit and I), went up north to ride with some of Emmit's old friends. We made two different rides, one on Saturday, one on Monday. Lots of fun and lots of dust.

Herd of Wild Burros

Emmett, Joe, and Ron rode to Emmetts Canyon yesterday. Along the way we saw a desert tortoise and a herd of wild burros about 20 strong. We made it further up Emmetts Canyon that we ever had before, had a nice relaxing lunch under the shade of a big tree. Elevation was about 5000 feet and it was nice and cool. By the time we got back to the valley floor temps were around 100 degrees. We're thinking we are going to start riding earlier, like maybe have start times around 6am or so. Summer has arrived!!!

Pahrump to Red Rock

We rode last thursday from Pahrump to Red Rock Canyon. There was 8 of us, no matter how many times Emmett tried counting 9. LOL. Took us almost 8 hours riding but we had a great time.

Wednesday Ride

We rode today, Emmet, his stepson, his grandson, and me. We saw elk, wild horses, a hawk, deer, and a desert tortoise. This was a big wildlife day, it was also cold, a few, very few raindrops, and a little very light snowflakes. Wind was blowing pretty good too.

Sunday Ride

Took Cuzn Frank out for a short ride in the desert. We saw a medium size desert tortoise, got bounced around a bit, got a little dusty, had some fun. Cuzn Frank is now a convert to "Quad Ridin"

Gone for the Summer

Most of the OGG guys are gone for the summer. Jerry's in California, Jack headed for Idaho, Larry's in Illinois, and Paul is just wandering around, right now I think he's in Utah. Just Emett and me hanging around Pahrump and lookin for new trails.

Sunday's ride report

We met for breakfast before our ride and officially added Paul as a member. Paul has a Rzr, not a quad, so we are going to go up Jack's trail to check if Paul can make it. Paul for sure made it but I think he has some scratches he didn't used to have. Welcome aboard Paul!!!

Report on Thursdays Ride

We left Pahrump, rode up to Wallace Canyon, then travel the back trail to Carpenter Canyon, then down the mountain behind Spring Mountain Race Track and back to Pahrump. There was a rumor, started by somebody, about someone getting stuck in the snow. Simply wasn't true, it was a teaching lesson for the new guy on winch use!!!! LOL, nice try Paul.

Thursday

We ride thursday, meet at 8:45 to 9:00 am at our normal crossroads.

Sunday 3/21 ride

We took a new guy, Paul, with his razor with us today. We had planned on trying to get up Wheeler Pass again and Larry was going to lead us. Larry was doing a bang up job too. . . that is until his wheel fell off, nut behind the wheel was loose, LOL. Paul and his razor did good, only had to be winched out once, I'm thinking it's a new guy thing, cause first time out for Phil we had to winch him out too, LOL. With Larry's rig kinda fixed he limped it most of the way home but the wheel finally fell off permanently and we had to bring his trailer up and tote it home. We still had a ball.

Saturday's ride

Saturday we towed quads to Lovell Canyon and unloaded there. We then rode over the mountain to Red Rock Canyon. The trail was pretty tore up, seems a 4x4 had slipped off the road and winched himself back up and really tore it up. We had to do some road repair to get by that spot. Once on the other side by the picnicing area we discovered we had made a mistake, the place was full of people, not our cup of tea. We headed back over the hill, thinking this will be a much better trip mid week in the spring.

I been lazy

Looks like I've been lazy about posting, but truth is I've been busy. We have been riding, checked out the pass to Wheeler, was probably passable but now it's snowed again up there so probably isn't now. We made a loop up around the Johnnie Mine the other day, Emett took us on another "Emett cut", whew, those can be rough. I got a bigger quad added to my stable yesterday so we'll take it out today and test it. Here's a couple of pics of our last outings.

Yeah, Gnome was with us

For those who were wondering, "Yeah, the Gnome was with us." A hottub for the cold days is out there, just for the takin. A horse was in the corral when we got there but Jack scared it out, LOL.

Exploring again

We of OGG decided to revisit the site some of the guys found last week. The conjecture is these are old indian drawings but none of us know for sure, just doesn't seem like modern day graffitti.

Too much happening

There's been too much going around in our lives to go riding and the weather has been an issue. Hopefully we'll be back wandering the trails in the mountains shortly. Some of the OGG did manage a ride last week, they found some Indian drawings, hopefully we'll make another trip up there soon and get some pics.

Today's ride cancelled

We had planned to ride today, but due to rain we have cancelled. Maybe tomorrow.

Sunday's Ride

Well we decided to ride and see if we could get to Wheeler's Pass - - - Nope, couldn't make it. At the road by the well nobody had been up there and the snow was probably 2 feet deep, deep enough that our quads just bottomed out and spun the tires. We did do our good deed for the year, helped unstick a couple of young whippersnappers up there with a 5 year old. Old 4x4 pick-up with worn out tires, and no chains equal STUCK!!!! Of course then coming back down the hill we run into two other 4x4's equally stuck. These bozo's thought they'd drive their 4x4's up there with "all season" tires, LOL. But not too worry, they all had a full load of wives and kids with em.

Went to look at conditions

Took a ride up in the Escape to check out conditions on the mountain towards Wheeler Pass. Looks like a ride is in the works for Saturday or Sunday as there is lots of snow.
